The Schaumburg region consists of contiguous territory of the County of Schaumburg just prior to its 1647 partition into Hessian, Lippian, and Guelphic portions. Schaumburgian territory in Holstein and Gemen is not included.
For the Schaumburg region, this website covers the period between 1485, when the Schaumburg name was adopted (replacing Schauenburg) and a portion-specific date:
- 1806/7 for the Hessian and Guelphic portions, when the Holy Roman Empire ended and those sections were placed in the Kingdom of Westphalia—a Napoleonic client state.
- 1871 for the Lippian portion, when it became a state in the German Empire. (This portion was never conquered by France, nor was it ever placed into a Napoleonic client state, so I can go past 1806 without tackling the issues that those events raise.)
