Amt and Stadt Stadthagen

The town of Stadthagen was founded in the 13th century and the Amt of the same name grew up around it. The town was granted city rights in 1344 (thereby separating it from the Amt), and served as the seat of the County of Schaumburg until 1607. When Schaumburg was partitioned in 1647, both the Stadt and the Amt were assigned to Schaumburg-Lippe. It maintained its separate identity within that country until it was absorbed into the German Empire in 1871.

In 1879, beyond the scope of this project, it merged with Amt Hagenburg to form Amt Stadthagen-Hagenburg.
