Amt Hagenburg

Amt Hagenburg grew up around a castle of the same name that dates from the 14th century. Before 1647, when the County of Schaumburg was partitioned, the Amt was quite small. After the partition, it was assigned to the Lippian portion and was augmented by villages that had previously been part of Amt Sachsenhagen (the core of which was assigned to the Hessian portion). Amt Hagenburg maintained its separate identity within that country until it was absorbed into the German Empire in 1871.

In 1879, beyond the scope of this project, it merged with Amt Stadthagen to form Amt Stadthagen-Hagenburg.
