Amt and Stadt Rodenberg

Amt Rodenberg grew up around a castle of the same name that dates from the 13th century. The town of Rodenberg was granted city rights in 1615, thereby separating it from the Amt. When Schaumburg was partitioned in 1647, Rodenberg was assigned to the Hessian portion—Schaumburg-Kassel. Both entities remained part of Schaumburg-Kassel until the end of the Holy Roman Empire, when they were absorbed into the Kingdom of Westphalia (a Napoleonic client state).

Amt Rodenberg was technically divided between two Vogteien, but they played no role in jurisdictional changes and I ignore them.

When a restored Schaumburg-Kassel was formally absorbed into Hesse-Kassel in 1821 (beyond the scope of this project), Rodenberg became a judicial district (incorporating the last vestiges of Amt Sachsenhagen) and, for administrative purposes, joined Kreis Schaumburg.
