Amt and Stadt Bückeburg

The town of Bückeburg was founded in the 14th century and the Amt of the same name grew up around it. In 1607, the town became the seat of the County of Schaumburg and in 1609, it was granted city rights and left the Amt. When Schaumburg was partitioned in 1647, both the Stadt and the Amt were assigned to Schaumburg-Lippe. In the early 18th century, some of the Amt’s villages joined Vogtei Hattendorf in Amt Schaumburg of Schaumburg-Kassel. Otherwise, the Amt maintained its separate identity within that country until it was absorbed into the German Empire in 1871.

In 1879, beyond the scope of this project, it merged with Amt Arensburg to form Amt Bückeburg-Arensburg.
