Anhalt Region

The Anhalt region consists of the territory that made up the Duchy of Anhalt after it was reunited in 1863. (Amt Walternienburg does not meet that criterion. It will be reassigned to the Wittenberg region when that region is processed.)

 

I account for all countries and subdivisions that fell within the region between 1606, when the Principality of Anhalt was divided, and the 1863 reunification. (The region was never conquered by France, nor was it ever placed into a Napoleonic client state, so I can go past 1806 without tackling the issues that those events raise.)

In the country list below, second-level countries were generally subordinate to the first-level countries under which they appear. In the subdivision list, however, second-level subdivisions were not subordinate to the first-level subdivisions under which they appear. Instead, they were later merged with or into those first-level subdivisions. That description also applies to the countries listed under “Anhalt_Seniorat”.
