Quasi-Amt Lindau-Nedlitz (from 1797 on)
Amt Lindau was one of the original Ämter assigned to Anhalt-Zerbst when the Principality of Anhalt was divided in 1606. When Anhalt-Zerbst was partitioned among the other three Anhalt principalities in 1797, Amt Lindau did not survive the partition intact. The western half was assigned to Anhalt-Köthen, the eastern half was assigned to Anhalt-Dessau, and the village of Göbel was assigned to Amt Walternienburg. The administrative status of the former Amt Lindau after 1797 is unclear. I have designated the two areas as “Quasi-Ämter,” each beginning with “Lindau” (to identify them with the original Amt) followed by the name of an identifying village (Lindau itself in the case of the area assigned to Anhalt-Köthen; Nedlitz in the case of the area assigned to Anhalt-Dessau). That arrangement persisted until Anhalt-Köthen was merged into Anhalt-Dessau in 1853.
