Oldenburg Region

		

The Oldenburg region consists of contiguous territory adjacent to the Weser River that was awarded to the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg after the Napoleonic Wars, with the exception of territory that previously belonged to the Bishopric of Münster.

 

The database starts and ends on different dates for different countries. The end date is always when France occupied the territory.

 

  • In Kniphausen, it runs between 1465, when the Lordship was founded, and 1807.
  • In Jever, it runs between 1517, when the last undisputed Frisian lord died, and 1807.
  • In Oldenburg, it runs between 1529, when the first Protestant count was installed, and 1811.
  • In Delmenhorst, it runs between 1547, when Delmenhorst first entered into a personal union with Oldenburg, and 1811.
  • In Amt Wildeshausen, it runs between 1523, when the Bishop of Münster assumed control, and 1811.
