(1) No date for the transfer of Merl to Bassenheimian administration can be documented. I use 1530 (before the partition of Bassenheim) when the Drachenfels line went extinct. The next candidate date would be 1622, when Myllendonk, the successor to Drachenfels, went extinct.

  • 1622: Myllendonk share of Wolkenburg transferred to Heisterbach Abbey (subjects of the Duchy of Berg) upon the extinction of the ruling Myllendonk line)
  • 1642: Bassenheim-Gudenau acquires administrative rights over Drachenfels from Bronkhorst-Batenberg-Anholt; acquires remaining administrative rights over Wolkenburg from Heisterbach Abbey
  • 1659: Bassenheim-Gudenau acquires full sovereignty over Merl, removing it from the quasi-country (2)
