Paderborn Region

The Paderborn region consists of territory under the sovereignty of the Bishopric of Paderborn and the Abbacy of Corvey in 1802, when they were secularized.

The data base begins in 1547, when Rembert von Kerssenbrock became bishop–the first of the 16th century not to also be bishop of another diocese. It ends with the termination of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 because the entire region was thereafter assigned to the Kingdom of Westphalia—a Napoleonic client state.
