Oberamt Neuhaus

Oberamt Neuhaus dominated the Unterwaldischer Distrikt until 1803. Within it were two lower levels of subdivisions. The higher of those two levels were called “Küchenämter” (literally “kitchen offices”—don’t ask why) of which there were three—Neuhaus, Boke, and Delbrück. The lower of the two levels were found only in Küchenamt Neuhaus and were not consistently named. The largest by far was Rentamt Neuhaus, which contained the city of Paderborn. Of the other four, I could find a source listing the villages only for the Gografiat of Salzkotten. I defined the remaining three in a minimalist fashion. The Kempen and Stuckenbrock subdivisions were isolated and not contiguous to any other villages that might plausibly have belonged to them. The Neuenbeken subdivision is explicitly linked to Altenbeken in some sources, so I included the latter, but there are other villages near Altenbeken that I could plausibly have included.

In 1803, the Oberamt was split between two Prussian Kreise. The villages of Oesdorf, Meersen, and Dalheim (the southernmost villages in Rentamt Neuhaus) were assigned to the Warburger Kreis. All others were assigned to the Unterwaldischer Kreis.
