    • 1643: Created upon the awarding of a countship to Peter Melander for his service in the Thirty-Years War and his purchase of territory
    • 1656: Entered into a personal union with Schaumburg upon its purchase by Melander’s widow; entered into a personal union with Dillenburg-Dillenburg upon the death of the widow and their daughter, who was married to the prince, inherited the county
    • 1676: Personal union limited to Schaumburg upon the death of the prince
    • 1692: Granddaughter of Melander promised future rule upon marriage to an Ascanian prince
    • 1700: Holzappel (but not Schaumburg) inherited by Melander’s Ascanian great-grandson upon death of his mother
    • 1707: Terminated upon the formal merger of Holzappel and Schaumburg
  • Successor: County of Holzappel-Schaumburg (1)

(1) Technically, Schaumburg was listed first because it was a principality, which outranked a county. However, I reverse to order to avoid confusion with countries in Schaumburgian Germany, with which the Principality was not associated.
