Neuenahrian Germany
Neuenahrian Germany began in 1221 with the founding of the county of the same name. It was partitioned in 1246 between itself and Rösberg, the latter of which initially held no sovereign territory, but administered lordships within the Electorate of Cologne. The main Neuenahr line died out in 1358 and the core county was ruled by the Saffenburgs until 1546, when it was fully incorporated into the Duchy of Jülich. I start the database for territories in the former County of Neuenahr at that point.
Rösberg acquired its first sovereign territory in 1442, when the count’s wife was gifted the County of Hohenlimburg. After the count’s father-in-law died, a dispute over that territory arose, which was settled by creating a condominium between Neuenahrian and Limburgian entities, which I assign to Jointly-Ruled Germany. After the Rösberg line died out in 1484, the Neuenahrian interest was assumed by the Alpen line, which had split off from the Rösberg line in 1465. In 1511, the Limburgian line died out and was replaced by the Daunians. I start the database for Hohenlimburg in 1518, when the Daunian participant switched from Oberstein to Falkenstein. When the Count of Neuenahr-Alpen married a Daunian in 1542, the condominium became unnecessary and Alpen exercised full sovereignty over Hohenlimburg within Neuenahrian Germany until 1589, when it became Bentheimian.
At the same time the Alpen line was created in 1465, a Bedburg line was also created. Each line administered the Cologne territory of the same name and one other—the Kölner Erbvogtei in the case of Alpen and Hackenbroich in the case of Bedburg. While Alpen had a sovereign interest in Hohenlimburg from the start, Bedburg had no sovereign territory until 1519, when it entered into a personal union with the County of Moers. I start the database for Moers at that point. That union lasted until 1541, when Moers was taken over by the Duchy of Cleves.
