Kreise in the Principality of Halberstadt

At some point after Halberstadt became part of the Kingdom of Prussia, it was divided into Kreise—a unit of local government made up of multiple Städte and Ämter. The date is uncertain—I estimate 1775. Furthermore, 18th century sources show more Kreise than 19th century sources. The following lists (and the results of the village search) reflect the make-up of each Kreis in the 18th century (with the exception of Amt Schlanstedt, which changed Kreise, presumably at the time of the consolidation). Combinations enacted during the consolidation include Halberstadt-Westerhausen, Aschersleben-Ermsleben, and Oschersleben-Weferlingen. Kreis Osterwieck became Kreis Osterwieck-Hornburg without adding any territory. The actual date of the consolidation is unknown, but I estimate 1800.

In 1816, beyond the scope of this project, the Kreise were restored, but not in the same form as under the Holy Roman Empire.
