Gericht Großbadegast
Amt Köthen (including the Stadt) was one of the original Ämter assigned to Anhalt-Köthen when the Principality of Anhalt was divided in 1606. It remained the core of that principality/duchy until 1853, when it was absorbed by Anhalt-Dessau.
Gericht Großbadegast, which consisted entirely of the village of that name, was unique in that it was owned by one of the other princes—namely, the Prince of Anhalt-Dessau. Prior to 1812, I render its simplified country name as Anhalt-Köthen-Dessau—named after both the sovereign and the owner. Once the village was formally absorbed into Amt Köthen, however, I disregard the ownership of Anhalt-Dessau.

All of the villages in the two Samtgerichte became part of Amt Köthen in 1812, as did the single-village Gericht of Großbadegast and the village of Ziebigk (transferred from Gericht Reinsdorf). However, twelve villages that were in Amt Köthen prior to 1812 were transferred to other Ämter—three to Amt Reinsdorf and nine to Amt Wulfen. That resulted in the following constitution of Amt Köthen in 1812:
