Territory controlled by the Eutin Kollegiatstift
Territory in the Bishopric of Lübeck was controlled by three different entities:
- The Bishop,
- The Cathedral Chapter (Domkapitel), and
- The Eutin Collegiate Monastery (Kollegiatstift).
The territory controlled by the Kollegiatstift was well to the northeast of Eutin and (except for two villages belonging to the Donkapitel) was surrounded by Holstein territory between the cities of Oldenburg in Holstein and Heiligenhafen. It was called simply the Kollegiatstift and did not acquire the formal title of “Amt” until after secularization in 1803. I nevertheless refer to it as an Amt, but add an * to signal the informality of that title prior to 1803.
In 1825, five nearby villages belonging to Amt Großvogtei (including the two adjacent ones) were added to the Amt. In 1843, the entire Amt was traded to the Duchy of Holstein for territory closer to the core of the Principality.
