County of Lippe-Brake
The County of Lippe-Brake was one of three subordinate counties created in 1613 from the core County of Lippe
(-Detmold). Like all Lippe spin-offs, I assign it to Lippian Germany. It originally consisted of the Ämter of Barntrup, Blomberg, and Brake, but acquired Amt Schieder when the Schwalenberg line died out in 1620. The Brake line itself died out in 1709, but its territory remained under dispute until 1748 when it was divided between the Counties of Lippe-Detmold and Schaumburg-Lippe. (During the period of dispute, I suggest using the simplified country name of simply “Lippe”.) Barntrup and Brake were awarded to Lippe-Detmold, and Blomberg and Schieder were awarded to Schaumburg-Lippe.
