Territory under Holstein sovereignty but administered by Hamburg or its institutions

During the 1544 partition of Holstein, 11 villages (Gericht Barsbüttel) were omitted from partition because they were administered by the Hamburg Cathedral Chapter (Domkapitel). To reflect the split between sovereignty (still Danish) and administrative responsibilities, I place those villages in the country of Holstein-Hamburg. The Domkapitel surrendered administrative responsibilities in that Gericht in 1576 and it was merged into Amt Trittau of Holstein-Gottorp.

Three other villages (Gericht Poppenbüttel) were under the sovereignty of the Schaumburgian County of Holstein-Pinneberg. For them, I initially use the simplified country name of Holstein-Pinneberg-Hamburg.  However, I drop the “Pinneberg” part of the name when Holstein-Pinneberg was absorbed into the Duchies of Holstein-Segeberg and Holstein-Gottorp in 1640. This Gericht remained intact until 1803 before its villages became part of Herrschaft Pinneberg in the unified Holstein.

Between 1750 and 1768, nine villages in Amt Reinbek of Holstein-Gottorp (Gericht Kirchsteinbek) were administered by the city of Hamburg. Finally, after 1818, a small portion of Kanzleigut Wellingsbüttel was owned by a Hamburg citizen while remaining under Holstein sovereignty.
