Brandenburg territory administered by Halberstadt
Prior to 1599, Herrschaft Derenburg and Amt Regenstein (basically, the castle itself) were subdivisions of the County of Regenstein-Blankenburg. When that county was permanently partitioned in 1599, sovereignty over Derenburg fell to the Margrave (later Elector) of Brandenburg and was nominally assigned to Provinz Altmark. Nevertheless, administrative responsibilities fell to the Bishopric of Halberstadt, by which it was surrounded. I therefore, render the simplified country name as Brandenburg-Halberstadt. After 1648, when Halberstadt was in personal union with Brandenburg, I treat Derenburg as a subdivision of Halberstadt.
Sovereignty over the Regenstein castle initially fell to Halberstadt, but was administered by other parties until 1670, when it became associated with Herrschaft Derenburg. In 1758, it returned to Halberstadt as part of Amt Westerhausen.
In 1694, the Elector of Brandenburg took possession of Hasserode—territory previously held by Wernigerode. Like Derenburg, it was administered by Halberstadt and, although it was nominally part of Provinz Altmark of Brandenburg, I treat Hasserode as part of Halberstadt. In 1701, Derenburg, Regenstein, and Hasserode all became part of the Kingdom of Prussia along with the rest of both Brandenburg and Halberstadt.
