Amt Walternienberg
Until 1659, Amt Walternienburg was part of the County of Barby. When the last count died, sovereignty reverted to Saxon rulers, but administrative responsibility fell to Anhalt-Zerbst. After the Zerbst ruling family died out, administrative responsibilities shifted to Anhalt-Dessau until 1815, when the Amt was awarded to Prussia.
