Schwarzburgian Germany
The House of Schwarzburg dates to the 12th century. In 1274, the County of Schwarzburg was partitioned into a Schwarzburg line and a Blankenburg line. The main Schwarzburg line died out in 1397, but a secondary line survived until 1564. The Blankenburg line did not die out, but was informally partitioned in 1584 and formally partitioned between Rudolstadt and Sondershausen in 1599. With the exception of some temporary spin-offs of Sondershausen, those boundaries remained stable until 1918—stability found almost nowhere else in Germany.
