Imperial Germany
Various cities throughout Germany were independent of the feudal countries that made up most of the empire. They were under the direct jurisdiction of the emperor, although he rarely involved himself in their administration. There were also such places as “Imperial villages” (mostly in Alsace and the Rhenish Palatinate). Lists of cities and villages will be provided when more regions containing such entities are processed.
