Stadt and Amt Dillenburg
A castle was built in Dillenburg in the 13th century that served as the seat of the Ottonian Nassau territories. (Hence, I call the unified county Nassau-Dillenberg.) Dillenburg received city rights in 1344 and was the seat of a Gericht/Amt consisting of the parish of the same name, later adding the parish of Frohnhausen. When the Ottonian lands were partitioned in 1607, Dillenburg remained the seat of its namesake county, although it was greatly diminished. Other than adding the village of Donsbach in 1630, the boundaries of the Amt were stable through the end of the Holy Roman Empire.
