Villages administered by the St. Johanniskloster of Lübeck

The St. Johanniskloster of Lübeck owned and administered several clusters of villages. I have split them into three Gerichte based on geography:

  • Gericht Kücknitz: Villages under Lübeck sovereignty, northeast of the old city and south of Travemünde. I selected the name Kücknitz because all but one of the villages now fall into the Stadtteil of that name.
  • Gericht Blankensee: Villages under Lübeck sovereignty, south of the old city in the Mühlentor sector. I selected the name Blankensee because that is the most familiar of the village names, being the location of the Lübeck airport.
  • Gericht Heringsdorf: Villages under Holstein sovereignty. I selected the Heringsdorf name because it was by far the largest of the villages in the Gericht. (Gericht Heringsdorf ceased to be associated solely with the St. Johanniskloster at some point and became more geographically coherent. That version of the Gericht is described on the post-Napoleonic Stadtstiftsdörfer page.)

If you are uncomfortable with the above groupings, you might simply use “St. Johanniskloster” as the simplified subdivision name.
