Amt Zülpich
Zülpich was founded by the Romans and later fell under the jurisdiction of the Merovingian and Carolingian Empires. Under the last of those, it served as the center of the Zülpichgau. Zülpich gained city rights in the early 13th century and spent the next hundred years between fought over by the Count of Jülich and the Archbishop of Cologne. From 1368 until the French occupation in 1794, it was the seat of an Amt in the Electorate of Cologne. It was not subdivided.
