Stadt and Amt Wesel

Amt Bislich

Herrlichkeiten Diersfordt & Haffen-Mehr

Wesel was founded on the right bank of the Rhein in the 8th century and was granted city rights in 1241. In 1407, it joined the Hanseatic league. The Richteramt (under Drostenamt Dinslaken) that grew up around Wesel was relatively small. Areas to the west and northwest of Wesel (excepting Diersfordt, which was a Herrlichkeit) formed Amt Bislich u. Haffen, which was not associated with Dinslaken. In 1649, Haffen, Mehr, and Mehrhoog left that Amt to become a Herrlichkeit, resulting in Haffen being dropped from the name of the Amt.

In 1753, Drostenamt Dinslaken was dissolved and Richteramt Wesel (excluding the Stadt itself) became a full-fledged Amt and was assigned to the new Kreis Wesel. Amt Bislich and the two Herrlichkeiten were similarly assigned to Kreis Wesel.
