Stadt and Amt Uedem
Stadt and Amt Sonsbeck
Richteramt Schravelen
Herrlichkeit Kalbeck
Uedem and Sonsbeck are two cities located roughly halfway between the Rhein and the border of the modern Netherlands that probably date to the 12th century. The former received city rights in 1359; the latter received them in 1320. Each had a Richteramt (subordinate to Landdrostenamt Kleve) grow up around them, as did Schravelen Castle, located south of Uedem and west of Sonsbeck. Richteramt Schravelen contained Stadt Kervenheim, which probably received city rights in the early 14th century. In 1647, Kalbeck left Richteramt Uedem to become a Herrlichkeit.
In 1753, Landdrostenamt Kleve was dissolved and replaced by the much larger Kreis Kleve. The Richterämter of Uedem and Sonsbeck became full-fledged Ämter and were assigned to Kreis Kleve (although their corresponding Städte were not). Amt Schravelen was split into three parts: the Ämter of Kervendonk and Winnekendonk (which were assigned to Kreis Kleve), and Stadt Kervenheim (which was not).
