Richteramt/Herrlichkeit Hamminkeln

Richteramt/Herrlichkeit Brünen

Herrlichkeit/Freiheit Ringenberg

Ringenberg Castle was built in the early 13th century in the territory (but without the permission) of the Bishopric of Münster. It was acquired by the County of Cleves in 1264 and was the seat of an Amt by 1350. After 1572, the Amt contained two Richterämter—Hamminkeln (next to Ringenberg) and Brünen (previously part of Freigrafschaft Dingden, which was shared with Münster). In 1650, Richteramt Hamminkeln was dissolved and its two villages (Hamminkeln and Ringenberg) became Herrlichkeiten. In 1753, Brünen became a Herrlichkeit and all three Herrlichkeiten were assigned to Kreis Wesel.
