Stadt and Amt Plön

Gut Stocksee

Gut Pehmen

The area was originally settled by Slavs, but was conquered by Saxons in 1139. A castle was build some 20 years later and an Amt grew up around it. Plön itself was granted city rights in 1236.

In the 1544 partition of Holstein, the Stadt and Amt remained with the core Duchy of Holstein. When the spin-off Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg was created in 1565, the Stadt and Amt were both assigned to it. In 1623, the Holstein territories thereof were further spun off into the Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderberg-Plön and the Stadt became the seat of that Duchy. The Amt acquired the territory of Gut Pehmen in 1638, Gut Stocksee in 1648, and the village of Tarbek (from Amt Segeberg) in 1682. The Stadt and Amt both reverted to the core Duchy in 1762.

The villages in Gut Stocksee were jointly ruled by Holstein-Segeberg and Holstein-Gottorp prior to being sold to Holstein-Plön. In contrast, Gut Pehmen was the personal property of the King prior to being sold to Holstein-Plön and hence was part of Holstein-Segeberg.
