Amt Monheim

Pfandherrschaft Richrath

Monheim was one of the eight original bergisch Ämter, as documented in 1363. It originally consisted of two Gerichte and covered the modern cities of Monheim and Langenfeld along with the western extremities of Leverkusen and the southern extremities of Düsseldorf. Between 1666 and 1803, Gericht Richrath (most of Langenfeld) left the Amt to become a separate hereditary Herrschaft. Unlike Broich and Odenthal, however, its owners were Berg subjects, so I do not create a separate country to account for it.

Amt Monheim also participated in two condominia with the Archbishopric of Cologne (Langel and Sinnersdorf). Both were west of the Rhein and will be processed with the Cologne region.
