Amt Löwenburg
Amt Lülsdorf
Löwenburg was originally an independent Gaugrafschaft consisting of six Gerichte on the east side of the Rhein across from Bonn. Its seat was Löwenburg castle in modern Bad Honnef, and it covered most of the modern city of Bonn east of the Rhein and the portions of the modern Rhein-Sieg Kreis bordering the right bank of the Rhein. In 1333, administrative responsibilities were transferred to the County of Jülich. In 1338, the Lordship of Heinsberg took over administrative responsibilities, then assumed full sovereignty in 1350. After passing through the hands of Nassau-Saarbrücken, Löwenburg was acquired by the Duchy of Berg in 1484, where it became an Amt.
Lülsdorf castle was built in the 12th and 13th centuries, was acquired by Berg in 1380, and became the seat of an Amt in 1446. It consisted of the Gerichte of Bergheim, Lülsdorf, and Rösrath (part of which was in Amt Porz) as well as Freiheit Niederwesseling after 1767. In the mid 16th century (sources suggest either 1530 or 1553), Lülsdorf was merged into Amt Löwenburg, although the seat remained Lülsdorf castle. Both units were frequently referred to by their pre-merger names thereafter, so I ignore the merger for purposes of constructing simplified place names.
Between 1635 and 1767, Niederwesseling was administered by Count von der Leyen. Prior to 1635, I do not place it in an Amt.
