Amt Lechenich
A castle was built in Lechenich in the 12th century and it became the seat of an Amt in 1185. Lechenich was granted city rights in 1279. The Amt was part of the Electorate of Cologne throughout the period covered by the database.
In addition to the Stadt, Amt Lechenich contain four other subdivisions. One of them was called “Gericht Lechenich”. It did not surround the Stadt, but was located further north, so I use the simplified subdivision name of Lechenich Nord. Adjacent to Amt Lechenich were nine Unterherrschaften that were not part of the Amt but were grouped with it for statistical purposes. They are described on their own page.
