Kloster/Herrschaft/Amt Harsefeld

Vogtei Mulsum

Samtgericht Delm & Gericht Schwinge

The Harsefeld monastery was established in 1104 and exercised secular authority over its surrounding area. It was originally part of the County of Stade, but was acquired by the Archbishopric of Bremen in 1221. The monastery was secularized by Sweden during the Thirty-Years War, at which time is was awarded to a series of Swedish citizens and given the status of Herrschaft. It was returned to the Swedish crown in 1690 and established as an Amt.

In 1692, three subdivisions of Amt Bremervörde—Ahlerstedt, Bargstedt, and Mulsum—(called “Börden”) were split off to create the new Vogtei Mulsum. In 1753, Vogtei Mulsum was dissolved and merged into Amt Harsefeld.

Adjacent to Amt Harsefeld were four noble Gerichte—Delm, Bliedersdorf (which was administered with Delm), Horneburg, and Sauensiek—which I group together as Samtgericht Delm (the only Gericht consisting of multiple villages). The three single-village Gerichte are identified below with the [*] notation. In 1784, Schwinge left Börde Mulsum to become its own Gericht.
