Amt Elberfeld
The settlement of Elberfeld dates from the 12th century, but Elberfeld castle was not built until the middle of the 14th century. The castle changed hands frequently until 1427, when it was acquired by the Duke of Berg and made the seat of an Amt. The Amt was located in the western part of what is now Wuppertal and consisted solely of the parishes of Elberfeld and Kronenberg, which were not further subdivided.
