Amt Dietz

Amt Dauborn

The core of the County of Dietz (which wasn’t founded until the 11th century) had been settled by the 8th century. The line of counts died out in 1388, and the lands passed through a number of hands. A final settlement with the Archbishopric of Trier was not reached until 1564. The parishes of Dauborn, Dehrn, Dietz, Flacht, and Hahnstätten along with the noncontiguous villages of Linter and Obernhof were assigned to Nassau-Dillenburg. Of those, I recognize Dehrn and Dauborn as their own subdivisions and place the rest in Amt Dietz. (The formal Amt may not have been created until after 1564, but I recognize it as of 1564 anyway). Dauborn was an Amt solely by virtue of its noncontiguity.

In 1607, when the Ottonian lands were partitioned, Dietz and Dauborn were assigned to the County of Nassau-Dietz. Uniquely among Ottonian Ämter, Dietz and Dauborn then remained part of the same country until the end of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 (although the country did eventually change its name to Orange-Nassau).
