Amt and Stadt Dessau
Amt Dessau (including the Stadt) was one of the original Ämter assigned to Anhalt-Dessau when the Principality of Anhalt was divided in 1606. It remained the core of that principality/duchy until Anhalt was reunited in 1863.
In 1837, several villages in the southern part of the Amt were transferred to Amt Jeßnitz.
