Lordship of Wickrath

The original Wickrath castle was built south of modern Mönchengladbach in the early 12th century and a lordship grew up around it. It became fully independent in 1488 and remained so until the French occupation. Schwanenberg was an exclave several miles to the west that seems to have been perpetually attached to Wickrath.
