Principality of Lüneburg-Harburg

The nonsovereign Principality of Lüneburg-Harburg was spun off from the Principality of Lüneburg in 1527 when one of the ruling princes entered into a marriage that was deemed inappropriate and it became expedient to remove him from participation in the Lüneburg government. Initially, it consisted solely of Stadt and Amt Harburg. After the founding prince died, his son managed to add Amt Moisburg to the Principality. In 1642, the Harburg line died out and its territory reverted to Lüneburg-Celle (the simplified name of the core principality after it was divided).
