Lordship of Styrum

The Lordship of Styrum was founded in 1289 by a member of the Limburg family. It straddled the Ruhr in what is now Mülheim an der Ruhr. It was so small that it did not even cover the entire territory known as Styrum, the rest of which was in Herrschaft Broich (part of the Duchy of Berg). Nevertheless, it had administrative responsibilities for a significant number of villages in the area (to be processed with other regions). It remained undisturbed until 1806.
