Lordship of Styrum

The Lordship of Styrum was founded in 1289 by a member of the Limburg family. It straddled the Ruhr in what is now Mülheim an der Ruhr. It was so small that it did not even cover the entire territory known as Styrum, the rest of which was in Herrschaft Broich (part of the Duchy of Berg after 1443, but administered by Limburg until 1508). Styrum remained undisturbed until 1806.
