The Regenstein portion of the
County of Regenstein-Blankenburg
and its gradual integration into
the Bishopric/Principality of Halberstadt
When the County of Regenstein-Blankenburg split up in 1599, the Bishopric of Halberstadt asserted sovereignty over most of the Regenstein territory. (The exception was Herrschaft Derenburg, over which the Margrave of Brandenburg was sovereign). Halberstadt did not, however, always have administrative responsibility for the territory—that fell to a variety of other parties. (Halberstadt did, however, have administrative responsibility over Herrschaft Derenburg). The following lists track which subdivisions were administered by what parties. In general, Halberstadt assumed administrative responsibilities for Regenstein territory in 1670. However, that date was earlier for Amt Winningen (1616) and Amt Westerburg (1650).
