Counties of Bentheim-Bentheim & Bentheim-Steinfurt

This page covers the lineage-based countries of Bentheim-Bentheim and Bentheim-Steinfurt, which were partitioned from Bentheim & Steinfurt in 1643. Their core territories were originally the geographic countries after which they were named. In 1693, however, they traded territories so that both of the geographic countries of Bentheim and Steinfurt were ruled by lines bearing the name of the other. To avoid confusion, I ignore the lineage-based names in the simplified names of the geographic countries after 1643.
