Principality of Anhalt-Plötzkau
The Principality of Anhalt-Plötzkau was not among the four created when Anhalt was divided in 1606. Nevertheless, it was created out of Amt Plötzkau by the Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg in 1611 to accommodate the fifth brother who received no land in the 1606 partition. In 1665, the ruling Anhalt-Köthen line died out and the prince abandoned his claim to Amt Plötzkau (which was instead assigned to Anhalt-Harzgerode) and assumed sovereignty over the territory of Anhalt-Köthen.
