Abbacy/Lordship of Elten
Elten Abbey was founded in the 10th century. It quickly fell under the direct authority of the Emperor, although the Bishop of Utrecht had some influence. Its secular jurisdiction extended only to its immediate vicinity. Administrative responsibility fell to the Duchy of Cleves beginning in 1473 (when the database starts). I therefore render the simplified country name as Elten-Cleves. In 1803, the abbey was secularized and awarded to the Kingdom of Prussia. It was not incorporated into any other Prussian country, nor was its noble status ever clarified. By default, I recognize it as a lordship until 1806 when the Empire was dissolved.
