Amt Beeck

Stadt Ruhrort

Herrlichkeit Meiderich

Beeck was probably founded in the 10th century and became part of the County of Cleves in 1338. The Richteramt (under Drostenamt Dinslaken) that grew up around it included settlements near the Rhein and others in what is now Oberhausen. The two sections were not contiguous, being interrupted by the territory of the Hamborn Abbey, which was part of Richteramt Dinslaken.

Ruhrort was founded in 1371 and was recognized as a city after 1551. It was treated as part of Richteramt Beeck and its name was occasionally added to the Richteramt’s name.

Meiderich was probably settled in the 9th century. It was never subordinate to Dinslaken, but rather became a Herrlichkeit.

In 1753, Drostenamt Dinslaken was dissolved and Beeck was converted to a full-fledged Amt. Along with Herrlichkeit Meiderich, it was assigned to the new Kreis Wesel. Ruhrort remained independent of the new Kreis.
