Amt Götterwickerhamm
Amt Spellen
Herrlichkeit Voerde
The modern Gemeinde of Voerde was probably settled in the 8th century, but no cities emerged from those settlements under the Holy Roman Empire. The area was under the jurisdiction of Richteramt Götterwickerhamm u. Spellen, which was subordinate to Drostenamt Dinslaken. Because there was always a clear division between the Götterwickerhamm part and the Spellen part, I treat them as separate Richterämter. (The name “Görsicker” was used interchangably with Götterwickerhamm for centuries. The latter rendition only became official in 1934. Both names appear in the database, but they represent the same place.) Voerde split off as a hereditary Herrlichkeit in 1652.
In 1753, Drostenamt Dinslaken was dissolved and the two Richterämter became full-fledged Ämter. Along with Herrlichkeit Voerde, they were assigned to the new Kreis Wesel.
