Amt Mettmann
Mettmann was founded in the 10th century and developed into the seat of courts for various jurisdictions even though it never achieved the status of a city. Eventually, the ruling jurisdiction was the Duchy of Berg, of which Mettmann was one of the eight original Ämter, as documented in 1363. It consisted of the Stadtgericht and Landgericht of Mettmann (between which I make no distinction) and Gericht Gerresheim. Territorially, it covered the modern cities of Mettmann and Erkrath along with parts of Wülfrath and eastern Düsseldorf.
