Goh Blockland/Hollerland

Hollerland and Blockland were created from swampland in the 12th century by Dutch settlers who had experience with land reclamation. They came under the jurisdiction of Stadt Bremen in the 13th century as distinct “Gohe” (a regional variation of “Gaue”—usually translated as “Districts”). In 1598, they were combined onto a single Goh.

In 1741, sovereignty over several villages—mostly in the former Blockland—was transferred to the Electorate of Hannover (while remaining under Bremen administration). To recognize that, I split Goh Hollerland/Blockland into two quasi-Vogteien and assign those remaining under Bremen sovereignty to Hollerland and those transferred to Hannover-Bremen to Blockland.

The lists below cover (in the left column) the period before the two Gohe were united and (in the right column) the period during which they were split between the two quasi-Vogteien. During the period in which Goh Hollerland/Blockland was undivided (1598-1741), it should be understood that all of the villages listed in either column (except Sebaldsbrück, which had not yet been settled) belonged to that Goh.
