Amt Netphen

Gericht/Amt Netphen consisted of the parishes of Netphen and Irmgardeichen and had been established by the 14th century. When the Ottonian lands were partitioned in 1607, Amt Netphen was assigned to the County of Siegen. When the further partition of the county of Siegen was first attempted in 1624, Netphen, the largest of the Ämter in the county, was required to give up several villages—some to Amt Ferndorf and some to Amt Hilchenbach. (The boundaries of the Netphen parish were adjusted accordingly.) When the partition actually occurred in 1648, Netphen was assigned to the Catholic county (governed out of Siegen’s Upper Castle).
