Vogtei Zwischenahn

A church was established in Zwischenahn in the 12th century and it became the center of a parish. Once it came under the control of the Count of Oldenburg in the 15th century, it combined with the neighboring parish of Edewicht to constitute a Vogtei under the Zwischenahn name.

During the local government reform instituted by Denmark in 1699, the Vogtei was placed under Landvogtei Neuenburg. Thus, all of the villages below were part of Landvogtei Neuenburg, Vogtei Zwischenahn between 1699 and 1811. The Electorate of Hannover had administrative responsibilities for Zwischenahn between 1711 and 1731, making it part of the country of Oldenburg-Hannover. The village of Zwichenahn itself was not designated a “Bad” until 1919.
