Landherrenschaft Walddörfer

Between the 14th and 16th centuries, Hamburg acquired a number of exclaves in the forested areas surrounded by Holstein. They were part of the Imperial City of Hamburg throughout the period covered by the database and were eventually placed in their own Landherrenschaft, governed by a Hamburg senator.

Two of the Walddörfer—Großhansdorf and Schmalenbeck were so far removed from the city that they were assigned to Schleswig-Holstein in 1938.
